Focus Scozia

Mirabilia 2016

This year’s big news is the strong presence of Scottish dance, circus-dance and physical theater, with significant support from Creative Scotland for a project by Riccardo Olivier and Alexander McCabe, realised in partnership with Aerial Edge, Conflux, Dance House Glasgow and Indepen-Dance.
Three of Scotland’s most promising makers will present the shows that are launching them to renown in the UK and beyond.

Among the protagonists of this section is Joan Clevillè Dance. The company will present “Plan B for Utopia” (Italian premier) which lends its title to this festival edition. Joan will be in Savigliano at Milanollo Theater on 5 & 7 July and in Fossano at Acaja Castle on 8 July: the charismatic performers Solène Weinachter and John Kendall explore the notion of utopia and the role of imagination as a driving force for change in our individual and collective lives.

Colette Sadler will present “We Are the Monster” (July 7 in Savigliano and July 8 in Fossano, Italian premier), a visual feast for children and adults. Robbie Synge with his superb “Douglas” (5 & 7 July in Savigliano, 8 July in Fossano), which arises from the physical actions imagined by the author while working in his rural home in the Scottish Highlands. “Douglas” has been rightly recognized by critics (Total Theatre Awards and others) and international professionals as a small masterpiece, a perfect balance between dance, contemporary circus, physical theater and live art.

Alongside the three main shows, the Scottish Focus will present 7 Pills of extremely diverse genres, from contemporary circus to dance, from butoh to street theater.
